Bird Collection

This Bird collection 3 pack of the Animal Shape decorations were originally designed and offered in spring of 2024. Every year we will be adding a new collection of animals.
These collections are packaged together as a set.
 
Each piece is roughly 4"x4"x1/2"
 
Stain colours picked at random for each piece. 
 
 
A little story about the animals in this set.
 
"Grassi Lakes Owl"
 
On my very first hike to see the beautiful turquoise green lakes at Grassi Lakes, I was greeted with a restriction limiting me from walking around the upper lake. It turns out the closure was to keep people from getting too close to a nesting Great Horned Owl who had 2 little fuzzy babies in a hole in the back rockface. This area is popular for climbers but this little family called dibs. 
I had my long lens with me so I was able to get a family portrait without having to get close.

"Columbia Icefields Raven"
 
The raven is quite the interesting bird. I have so many stories of them doing something but nothing compared to the first real raven experience I had along the Icefields Parkway, specifically at the Columbia Icefields. Anytime I would get into my vehicle one would land just outside my door and spook me when I didn't see it fly and land there. It happened a bunch of times. Then I drove 30 minutes down the road and before I could open my door to get out, 2 ravens sat in the same spot and spooked me again. In the last 13 years I have learned this is typical behaviour for these stalkers, I mean birds.

"Castle Mountain Osprey"
 
For likely over 2 decades there has been a noticable feature attached to the bridge over the Bow River at Castle Junction in Banff. This feature is a big beautiful Osprey nest. It sits on top of the bridge and used to be home to a pair of ospreys. They would use this nest to raise their young every year. I would visit the area for sunset and watch the babies take their first flights almost hitting the water. It was an amazing and nerve wracking experience. It has been several years since this nest has been used however and the pair have moved to a different nest more in the forest. This move was prompted by illegal drone use in the area.
